Deputy Gets in Gun Battle With Armed Robbers in Largo: Police
Investigators believe the men intended to rob the off-duty deputy near Largo Town Center, according to Prince George's County Police.

LARGO, MD — A Prince George's County sheriff's deputy engaged in a gun battle with possible robbers near Largo Town Center early Saturday morning.
The deputy, who was off duty at the time, was approached by two men in a parking lot in the 10500 block of Campus Way South at around 1:50 a.m. July 24, and at least one of them had a gun, according to a Prince George's County Police Department statement.
Police believe the men intended to rob the deputy. One of the men shot at the deputy but missed, and the deputy returned fire. Police don't know if the men were hit.

They fled the scene in a car driven by a third suspect.
In addition, the sheriff's office is conducting an administrative investigation into the shooting, and will provide information about the identity of the deputy and his duty status.
