PG County Executive Rips Governor Over Hospital Funding: Report

Rushern Baker and other PG County lawmakers slammed Gov. Hogan for cutting funding for the Regional Medical Center in Annapolis Wednesday.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker railed against Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan at a news conference in the state's capital Wednesday over a new state budget that slashes funds for a hospital to be built in the county.

Baker was joined by other lawmakers from Prince George's County to demand that Hogan increase funding for the new Regional Medical Center, which is intended to increase primary care in the region and reduce the need for residents to travel elsewhere for treatment, according to a WTOP report.

The budget provides half of the $30 million PG County lawmakers believe is required by state law for the new hospital. Hogan's office says they aren't cutting funding but just adjusting the funding schedule.

However, Baker and other county lawmakers have stepped up the pressure on the governor to provide more funding for the project, arguing that the cut jeopardizes the hospital's schedule.
