PG County Liquor Board Chairman Asked Cops to Make DUI Charges 'Go Away': Report

Charles Caldwell faces DUI and other charges related to a crash at the MGM casino's grand opening Dec. 8.

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD — The chairman of the liquor board for Prince George's County who was arrested near the new MGM casino on drunk driving charges tried to use his position to make the charges "go away" during his arrest, according to a report.

The Washington Post, citing the police report, reports that 72-year-old Charles Caldwell asked officers, "is there any way we can make this go away?" Caldwell was arrested Thursday, Dec. 8 on DUI, reckless driving and other charges near the casino, which was having its grand opening.

Caldwell has denied driving impaired, and said the results of the breath test were inconclusive. Police say he was involved in a collision with two other vehicles, that he was unsteady on his feet and that he repeatedly mentioned his position on the commission to officers, the Post reported.
