PG County Schools Closing 2 Hours Early Monday

Freezing rain is expected to cause problems during the evening commute, so students will be let out early.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD -- Prince George's County has announced that public schools will close two hours early on Monday due to the threat posed by freezing rain during the evening commute.

"Schools and central offices will close 2 hours early today; no afternoon/evening activities including Evening High School, and today's Board of Education meeting is cancelled," Prince George's County Public Schools announced in a notice posted on their website.

In addition, Pointer Ridge Elementary School and Marlton Elementary School will be closed all day due to a lack of heat in the buildings.

The county is expected to get freezing rain starting at around 2:30 p.m. and intensifying at around 7 p.m. With temperatures near freezing, the county is concerned that the rain will make for dangerous, icy conditions on the roads.
