BOWIE, MD -- Always pay your child support. That's the message the Prince George's County Sheriff communicated to residents recently with a huge "child support summer sweep" that resulted in 16 arrests representing $149,000 in child support arrears.

The two-day warrant operation took place Aug. 4 and 5 and focused on individuals wanted for child support-related warrants, according to a statement posted by the sheriff.

"This work is at the core of our partnership with the State Office of Child Support Enforcement, bringing individuals before the court to facilitate the collection of child support payments that provide for children in the care of custodial parents," Captain Sharon Saunders, Civil Divisions Assistant Chief, Bureau of Field Operations, said in the statement.
