PGC Firefighter Recruits Help On National Wreaths Across America Day
Firefighter recruits and instructors with the PGFD helped unload and set up wreaths Saturday for National Wreaths Across America Day.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD β Recruits and instructors at the Prince George's Fire Departmentβs Career Recruit Schools, along with firefighters from the 7th Battalion, helped unload and place more than 1,000 wreaths at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in support of Wreaths Across America.
National Wreaths Across America Day was held Dec. 14. More than two million volunteers and supporters gathered to "Remember, Honor and Teach" at more than 4,600 participating locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad.
In 2022, Wreaths Across America and its national network of volunteers placed more than 2.7 million sponsored veterans' wreaths on headstones of service members at 3,702 participating locations. This was accomplished with the support of more than 5,000 sponsorship groups, corporation contributions and in-kind donations from the transportation industry across the country.

The wreath-laying that began more than 30 years ago is still held annually, on the second or third Saturday of December. Wreaths Across America's annual pilgrimage from Harrington, Maine, to Arlington National Cemetery has become known as βthe worldβs largest veteransβ parade." Every year the convoy of trucks, local law enforcement, staff and supporters stop at schools, monuments, veteransβ homes and communities along the way to talk about the Wreaths Across America mission and remind people how important it is to remember, honor and teach.
