BOWIE, MD --Bowie P0lice Chief John Nesky warned residents to lock up and secure their vehicles in the wake of a series of vehicle-related thefts in the area, according to a video posted on the Bowie Police Department's Facebook page.

"As we know, thefts from autos have become not only an alarming problem in the region but in our city," Nesky said, in the video.

The chief then went on to share video footage captured by a resident showing two people pulling on the door handles of a parked car in the resident's driveway.

Nesky described a similar incident that took place early Thursday morning, Jan. 16, in the K section of the city. The resident involved in that incident contacted the police. After apprehending the suspects, police discovered they were driving a vehicle that was stolen from Glenarden and contained other stolen property.

During interrogation later at the police station, the suspects warned the police they would be back in the Bowie area, because they knew there were plenty of unlocked cars there with valuables in them, according Nesky. He used that story as an example of why citizens should take care in locking their vehicles and securing their valuables.
