Police: Loaded Gun Brought to Bowie High
Student facing gun charge reportedly just wanted to show the weapon to other students in class, according to Bowie Police.

A 16-year-old Bowie resident was charged Friday with possession of a weapon on school property after bringing a loaded gun to Bowie High School, according to city police.
Officers responded at 8:50 a.m. Friday after a student notified an officer on campus that there was another student with a gun in his book bag. The suspect was allegedly showing the gun to other students in class.
Officers removed the student and the book bag from the classroom. The gun was identified as a S&W Model 4006 .40 Cal handgun with a clip of 11 live rounds in the weapon, according to police. The student was taken into custody and charged.

No students were threatened and the weapon was never pointed at anyone, according to Bowie police.
Chief John Nesky said that the student told police he did not intend to use the gun, just to show it to his classmates, according to The Washington Post.

The school notified parents of the incident Friday afternoon in a letter, according to MyFoxDC.
