Police Make Arrest in Temple Hills Murder

John Hazelwood, 26, of D.C. faces first and second degree murder charges stemming from the Sept. 8 shooting.

TEMPLE HILLS, MD — Police have made an arrest in the shooting death of 52-year-old George Barnes in Temple Hills back on Sept. 8.

Police arrested 26-year-old John Hazelwood of Southeast D.C. on first and second degree murder charges, as well as additional assault and weapons charges, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.

Hazelwood is accused of shooting Barnes inside his apartment building in the 2500 block of Southern Avenue, and then fleeing the area. Barnes was taken to the hospital, but he died several hours later.

Police still haven't figured out a motive for the crime, the report notes.

Hazelwood is being held without bond at the Department of Corrections.
