Police Pull Boy from Icy Pond; Child Drowns
The seven-year-old fell into a retention pond while playing. Two Prince George's County Police officers tried to save the boy.

Two Prince George’s County Police officers jumped into a frigid retention pond to rescue a 7-year-old boy who had fallen in and later died.
WJLA TV reports the boy and his sister were playing near the edge of the pond in the 1500 block of Southview Drive when the boy fell into the water. The girl ran to get her mother, and the nearby patrol officers were flagged down about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The officers pulled the boy out of the icy water, which had a thin layer of ice on it, and performed CPR until an ambulance arrived. The seven-year-old was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police say. Both officers were also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Temperatures were in the 20s at the time of the accident, WJLA says.
