Police Search For Driver Involved In Fatal Hit And Run In Cheverly New Year's Day

Police are searching for the driver and vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run that happened New Year's Day in Cheverly.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Police are searching for the driver of the vehicle that fatally hit a man and left the scene New Year's Day.

Police officers were called to the area of Landover Road and Neighbor Lane in Cheverly Jan. 1 around 8:45 p.m. for a report of a man unresponsive in the road. He was pronounced dead on the scene and later identified as 50-year-old Marcial Gregorio Tom of Cheverly, the police department said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of an unidentified vehicle was traveling northbound on Landover Road when for reasons now under investigation, they hit Tom. The driver did not remain on the scene. Investigators are working to determine the make and model of the striking vehicle and will release that information when it's available, the police department stated.
