Prince George’s Goes Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative Kicks Off Oct. 4

Prince George's Goes Pink, a breast cancer awareness initiative, kicks off Oct. 4 with a month-long series of events.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Prince George's County has planned a series of events to spread awareness and education around breast cancer and the programs, resources and support available for breast cancer patients and survivors called Prince George’s Goes Pink.

“My mother is a breast cancer survivor, so initiatives like this are deeply personal to me and so many other Prince Georgians who have been impacted by this disease,” said Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. “Prince George’s County has one of the highest mortality rates of breast cancer in the State of Maryland, but we are working to change that. Our goal with Prince George’s Goes Pink is to come together as a community to raise awareness and education about this disease while also lifting spirits, because no one should have to fight this battle alone.”

The initiative features several events throughout the month of October including two new signature events. The first new event is “Men Who Cook in Pink,” where attendees will enjoy culinary creations prepared by residents and celebrity chefs from throughout the County. The event will be Oct. 28 from noon to 3 p.m. at Oxon Hill High School and is hosted in partnership with Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Prevention: Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
