Prince George's Co. March 3 School Schedule Altered Due To Weather

Prince George's school officials have rescheduled Monday night's boys and girls basketball games and have altered Tuesday's school schedule.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Due to inclement weather Monday into Tuesday, all after school activities and sports practices must wrap up by 6 p.m. Monday, school officials announced. Games have been rescheduled and school Tuesday will have a late start time.

Transportation will not be provided for after school activities and evening programs Monday.

Boys and girls basketball games originally scheduled for Monday night have been rescheduled to Tuesday night.

All Prince George's County Public Schools and offices will open two hours late.

There will not be any work-study transportation. Those students should not report to school.

Vendor managed care programs will open at 9 a.m.

There will not be any half-day Early Childhood Center programming, half-day special education programs or half-day pre-kindergarten.

Any other school program requiring transportation prior to noon will not have transportation, including Howard B. Owens Science Center, JA Finance Park and William S. Schmidt Center (Camp Schmidt).

All field trips will be canceled.

Food Services will offer breakfast.

The PGCPS weather team will reassess conditions at 5:30 a.m. and announce any additional schedule changes by 6:30 a.m.A burst of snow was forecast for Monday afternoon, mainly from just south of Baltimore to the Washington DC metro, according to the National Weather Service.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang predicts temperatures mainly in the mid-30s during the day, but drivers should watch for slushy roads if there are any heavier bursts of snow.

"Wet snow tapers off this evening. After midnight, freezing rain, possibly starting as snow and sleet, develops," the Post forecast. "Freezing rain changes to plain rain by sunrise Tuesday near and east of Interstate 95 and midmorning or so elsewhere. Then a big warmup Wednesday into the weekend but with showers at times."
