Prince George's Cop Arrested, Charged With Attempted Rape

A Prince George's County police officer was arrested on Sunday on charges of rape. The victim says the incident happened last Thursday.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A Prince George's County police officer was arrested Sunday on charges of attempted rape. The accused officer, Brian Newcomer, lives in Calvert County.

The victim says the rape happened in her Prince George's County home last Thursday night. She reported it to police the next day. Maryland State Police arrested Newcomer Sunday evening without incident.

Newcomer, 36, faces charges of attempted rape, fourth-degree sex offense, false imprisonment and three counts of second-degree assault. Newcomer also had a restraining order filed against him on Sunday.

Newcomer's final court date for the restraining order is next Tuesday. He has a preliminary hearing for his criminal charges on Sept. 3. The court system has not yet announced his trial date.
