Prince George's County Nonprofit Founder Wins Charity Award

A nonprofit founder won the William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for Prince George's County.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A local nonprofit founder won an award from the state government for her work hosting job training programs. Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot presented the founder, Kim Rhim, the William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for Prince George's County at a virtual ceremony Tuesday.

The award honors residents who go above and beyond to help their communities. Schaeffer, the award's namesake, was a former Maryland governor, Baltimore mayor and state comptroller. One person from each county and Baltimore City win the award each year.

Rhim founded her nonprofit, The Training Source, in 1993 to help promote economic mobility for Marylanders who are unemployed or have low-income. The Training Source offers both adult and youth job training programs. All award presentations happened virtually this year to avoid large gatherings during the coronavirus outbreak.
