Public Asked to Help Find Suspect in Fatal Shooting

A Silver Spring man was shot to death behind a New Carrollton apartment early Tuesday morning, according to Prince George's County Police.

The public is being asked to help investigators find a suspect for the murder of a Silver Spring man that happened overnight at an apartment in New Carrollton.

New Carrollton Police Department patrol officers were called to the 7800 block of Riverdale Road about 3:50 a.m. Tuesday for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, officers found Damato Anthony Coates, 24, of Carters Grove Place in Silver Spring, behind an apartment building suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Coates was pronounced dead on the scene.

Preliminarily, Prince George’s County Police Department detectives do not believe this was a random shooting.

Detectives are working to establish a motive and identify the suspect in this case.
