Shooting Kills Woman, Injures Four in Forestville: Update

Four people were taken to the hospital after they were shot Tuesday at an apartment unit in Forestville, Prince George's County Police say.

FORESTVILLE, MD — Five people were shot early Tuesday in a Forestville attack that killed a woman and injured four other victims, according to authorities.

Prince George’s County Police were called to the 6500 block of Hil Mar Drive about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Joanne Woods, 49, of Mason Street in District Heights died in the shooting, which police do not believe was a random act.

Police found Woods outside an apartment building suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Four other victims were also shot. Two remain in the hospital, while two victims have been treated and released from the hospital. None of their injuries appear life-threatening.

Investigators say the victims were standing outside when they were shot by a suspect in a car. The car then sped from the area.

Detectives are trying to identify suspects and a motive in the shootings.

Crime scene tape blocked off part of the grounds at the Avanti apartments as children were escorted through to get to school Tuesday morning.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
