PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A Bowie homeowner fatally stabbed an intruder who forced his way into the man's home.
The incident happened Monday around 7 a.m. Bowie police officers were called to a home in the 2700 block of Balsam Place for a report of a residential burglary. A preliminary investigation reveals that at least two suspects attempted to force their way into the home after pepper-spraying a man at the front door. At least on suspect had a gun, according to police.
The resident stabbed one of the suspects when they made it into the foyer of the home. The suspects then ran away from the home. The injured suspect was dropped off at a hospital where he died a short time later. He has been identified as 57-year-old Samuel Lee West of Burlington, North Carolina. Detectives do not believe this was a random incident, a police report noted.
