Search for Mary Butler Comes to Tragic End in Pennsylvania: Police

The 79-year-old woman had disappeared Aug. 5, and had last been seen in the Fort Washington area.

BOWIE, MD — The sudden disappearance of 79-year-old Mary Butler earlier this month near Fort Washington sparked a desperate search by authorities. Unfortunately, that search has now come to an end with the discovery of a body in Pennsylvania.

Police found Butler's body in a rural area in Orrstown, Pa., on Aug. 28. Orrstown is located in the south-central portion of the state, southwest of Harrisburg.

"Pennsylvania State Police are conducting a death investigation," according to a Prince George's County Police Department statement. "Preliminarily, there does not appear to be any foul play. We offer her family our deepest condolences."
