Sexual Assault Reported Near University Of Maryland Campus: Police

A woman reported being sexually assaulted near the University of Maryland, College Park campus.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A woman reported being sexually assaulted Saturday between 1 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. while in the area of the University of Maryland, College Park.

The woman told the Prince George's Police Department that she was in the area of Baltimore Avenue and Knox Road when a man she didn't know approached her and started talking to her. She told the man to leave her alone and he began to walk away, but then he walked back to her, touched her inappropriately — which is classified as fourth-degree sexual assault — and left, according to the Prince George's County Police Department.

She described the suspect as being in his 40s, between 5'11 and 6' and with a medium build weighing between 165 and 180 pounds. He has a black beard and was wearing blue jeans and a black jacket, the police department disclosed.

Because the incident occurred near the University of Maryland, College Park campus, the University of Maryland Police Department issued a safety notice.
