Student Shot At Suitland High School, Teen In Custody: Police

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, MD — A ninth-grade student was shot at Suitland High School in District Heights, prompting officials to lock down the building Thursday. Meanwhile, a 14-year-old has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting, according to a report.

In a tweet, officials with Prince George's County Public Schools said the student was shot during what they called "a physical altercation." The shooting happened around 10 a.m.

According to officials, a group of students witnessed the shooting and fled when shots were fired.

Police said a school resource officer provided first aid to the student who was later taken to the hospital. The extent of the student's injuries is unclear.

School officials called the shooting an isolated incident.
