Sidewalk, Pedestrian Signal Being Built at CSX Underpass
City officials say the raised sidewalk and signal at Bowie Road and Lafayette Avenue in Laurel will improve safety.

Work is under way to install a sidewalk and pedestrian signal for people to safely walk under the CSX underpass at Bowie Road and Lafayette Avenue in Laurel, according to the city.
The city, in cooperation with Prince George’s County, is installing a signal and sidewalk for hundreds of pedestrians to use. Currently, they compete with cars and trucks to get through the area near the bridge, says a news release.
The improvements will increase safety for pedestrians and drivers. In addition, the Laurel Rescue Squad will be able to control the signal when responding to emergencies.
