Sinkhole Partially Swallows Up Car In Bowie, Drivers To Avoid Area: Police

An 8-foot-wide sinkhole opened up in Bowie Monday and a car fell partway into it. Drivers are to avoid the area until it can be repaired.

BOWIE, MD — An 8-foot-wide sinkhole has been reported in Bowie and a car fell partway into the sinkhole. Crews worked Monday morning to pull it out.

According to the city, the sinkhole gapes open at the intersection of Duckettown Road and Maple Avenue in Old Town Bowie. The intersection will remain closed until repairs can be made.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area for now.
