Small Fire Closes Elementary School for Two More Days
Samuel Chase Elementary in Temple Hills will be closed through Thursday for cleanup. Students will instead have class at a high school.

Samuel Chase Elementary School in Temple Hills will remain closed Wednesday, Oct. 14, and Thursday, Oct. 15, school officials say, as cleanup continues from a small fire.
Classes were canceled at the school Tuesday for what the school system calls a “mechanical error.”
According to the Prince George’s County Fire Department’s Twitter feed, an overheated motor in an oscillating fan caught fire at the school.

The fire was contained to one classroom, Sherrie Johnson, spokeswoman for the school system, told WTOP. The electrical panels in the room that caught on fire are damaged, she says, and they can’t be repaired in one day.
Students at Samuel Chase will report both days to Crossland High School at 6901 Temple Hill Road in Temple Hills.
