Son Charged In Fatal Stabbing Of His 80-Year-Old Mom

CHEVERLY, MD — A son has been arrested and charged in the fatal stabbing of his 80-year-old mother.

Prince George's police officers were called to a home located in the 6200 block of Monroe Street for a report of a domestic dispute shortly after 9 p.m. Officers found Brenda Wheeler, 80, with fatal stab wounds. She died at the scene, the police department reported.

Officers also took her son, 54-year-old Darrick Alston of Cheverly, into custody at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed Alston stabbed his mother during an argument. He has been charged with first- and second-degree murder. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
