Surveillance Video Released in Postal Worker Slaying; $125K Reward Offered

Prince George's County Police believe the car seen in the video may be linked to Tyson Barnette's death.

The U.S. Postal Service and Prince George’s County Police have released a video clip depicting an SUV racing down the street that may be linked to a slaying of a postal worker in November 2013.

Tyson Barnette, 26, of Upper Marlboro was on his mail route on the 1600 block of Reed Street in Landover, around 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23, when he was shot multiple times, according to a previous Patch story. His body was found near the intersection of Reed Street and Jutewood Avenue, just south of the Cheverly Metro stop.

The surveillance video was taken from a camera on Englewood Drive, about 100 yards from the crime scene, Tom Ouellette, a spokesman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, told the Washington Post.

Authorities have had the video since the beginning of the case, but chose not to release it immediately, the Washington Post reports.

“We felt this was the appropriate time to re-engage the public in this investigation of one of our postal letter carriers,” Ouellette told the Post. “We’re hoping that the individual who either owns the vehicle or anyone who knows something about the vehicle will step forward and provide information that will bring a resolution.”

There is a $125,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, WJLA reports.

Anyone with information related to this crime should contact the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455 or Prince George’s County Police at 301-772- 4925. All information will be kept confidential.
