Suspect In 6 Armed Robberies of Taxi Drivers Arrested: Prince George's Police

The suspect police believe was involved with six armed robberies of taxi drivers has been arrested, according to Prince George's Police.

HYATTSVILLE, MD — A 24-year-old Hyattsville man has been arrested in connection to a string of recent armed robberies targeting independent taxi service drivers that happened between Jan. 4-10 in Edmonston and Hyattsville.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Francisco Chevez-Ramirez called each of the taxi service drivers pretending to be a customer requesting a ride. Once inside their vehicles, he pulled out a weapon and demanded money and property. In one case, Chevez-Ramirez hit the driver and forced them to drive to an ATM to take out more money, the Prince George's Police Department started.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant and a residential search warrant for Chevez-Ramirez who was taken into custody during the search of his home on Jan. 10. At the time of his arrest, Chevez-Ramirez was in possession of a replica firearm identical to the weapon described in the armed robberies. Additional evidence linked to the crimes also was recovered, the police department said.

Chevez-Ramirez has admitted his involvement in all of the armed robberies. He faces numerous charges including first-degree assault, armed robbery and firearms offenses.
