Suspect Arrested for Dragging PG County Officer 100 Yards

Danny Harvell of Temple Hills reportedly drove off with a police officer's arm caught in his seatbelt. The officer suffered a broken leg.

A Temple Hills man sought by Prince George’s County Police for a week after he allegedly drug a police office about 100 yards with his car is now in jail, authorities say.

Danny Lee Harvell, 26, is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and other charges. He is being held on a no-bond status.

A Prince George’s County Police officer suffered a broken leg July 15 after he was dragged Harvell’s car, authorities say. The officer had tried to question Harvell in District Heights in an area with a recent spate of home breakins, but Harvell instead drove away. The officer had reached into the window to try to keep Harvell from fleeing, but his arm became entangled in the automatic seatbelt.

Harvell was the focus of what police called a massive search, with alerts going out along the East Coast.

The injured officer is at home recovering from surgery. He’s been a Prince George’s County Police Officer for four years.
