CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Monday morning in Capitol Heights. On Feb. 23 around 11:20 a.m., Prince George's police officers were called to the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike for a report of a shooting. They found 45-year-old David Downs of Capitol Heights with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect(s). A few years ago, I began a journey to create a nonprofit dedicated to supporting cancer patients here in Prince George&rsquo;s County. It&rsquo;s been a long and meaningful road, and I&rsquo;m excited to share that we are getting very close to launching our services.
As many know, the cancer journey requires far more than medical treatment. True healing and thriving also depend on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual support. Our mission is to provide wellness services that help individuals navigate life during and after a cancer diagnosis.
We&rsquo;re currently looking for support from our community:

We are seeking a few additional volunteers to lead yoga and meditation
sessions. If you&mdash;or someone you know&mdash;might be interested, we would love to connect.

We are also expanding our Board of Directors and seeking passionate individuals who want to make a meaningful impact. Current needs include:
