Suspected Shooter Arrested During High-Risk Traffic Stop

Authorities say the suspect wanted in three highway shootings Monday night and early Tuesday morning has been apprehended.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Police arrested the suspect wanted in three highway shootings during a high-risk traffic stop.

Kendrick Lamont Savoy, 44, of Lothian was driving the vehicle that matched the suspected car - a Dodge Challenger - involved in the trio of shootings. Officers pulled him over in the 2300 block of Oxon Run Drive in Temple Hills.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, Highway Gun Crimes and Criminal Enforcement Division responded to the scene and conducted an authorized search of the vehicle. Two handguns were found in the vehicle.

Savoy was arrested without incident and taken to the Prince George’s County Detention Center. He has been charged with:

  • 5 counts of attempted first-degree murder
  • 5 counts of attempted second-degree murder
  • 5 counts of first-degree assault
  • 3 counts of use of a firearm in a violent felony
  • Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
  • Possession of a stolen firearm

The first shooting police say Savoy is connected to happened Monday night at 10:35 p.m. on MD Rt. 5 at Allentown Road. The driver called police and reported that their vehicle had been struck by gunfire. There were no reported injuries, according to police.

The second incident happened on the ramp from northbound MD Rt. 5 to the outer loop 49​5​/95 shortly before 10:50 p.m. Monday night. A driver traveling on the ramp told police that a man was standing outside the driver’s side of a vehicle parked on the shoulder. The man fired multiple rounds and hit the driver's vehicle. There were no injuries reported.

The third incident occurred early Tuesday morning shortly before 1:30 a.m. on southbound 495​/95 at Ardwick Ardmore Road. A driver told police that he was shot through his vehicle. He drove himself to a local hospital for treatment.
