Tornado Watch Issued In PG County

BREAKING: The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Prince George's County.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD -- The National Weather Service has placed Prince George's County on a tornado watch until late Monday night.

NWS included PG County as well as southern Maryland, D.C., and the I-95 corridor in Virginia in the tornado watch, which will be in effect until 10 p.m.

A tornado watch means that "a couple tornadoes possible" and "isolated hail up to small marble size possible," according to a 3:40 p.m. tweet by NWS DC/Baltimore. Isolated gusts of wind up to 70 miles per hour are also possible.

The region under tornado watch includes a population of more than 6 million people, 1,427 schools, and 56 hospitals.

Former Hurricane Florence is responsible for the storms rolling through the area Monday and Tuesday. The storm has already caused catastrophic flooding in the Carolinas and may bring lots of rain to our area as it tracks northeast.
