Two Die in Head-On Crash, Police Fault Driver Without License

A Hyattsville driver likely caused a Laurel crash that killed him and the Gaithersburg driver he slammed into, police say.

LAUREL, MD — Two men died Tuesday night when a speeding car driven by a man without a license slammed head-on into another vehicle, police say.

The fatal crash happened about 10 p.m. on Laurel-Fort Meade Road (MD-198) near Baltimore-Washington Parkway (MD-295) in Laurel.

Witnesses told Anne Arundel County Police that a 2007 Chevy Impala driven by Cesar Dayan Peguero Guzman, 25, of Hyattsville was eastbound on MD-198 at a very high rate of speed.

Guzman, whose license was suspended, failed to stop for the red light at Russett Green Drive. After crossing MD-295, he crossed the centerline in a skid and struck a westbound Toyota Camry head-on, police said.

The 2015 Toyota Camry was driven by Godfred Paa Kwesi Dzansi, 39, of Gaithersburg. Dzansi was declared dead at the scene by Fire Department personnel and was taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Baltimore for autopsy.

Guzman was flown by helicopter to Shock Trauma, where he later died from his injuries.

The preliminary cause of the crash is Guzman’s failure to remain right of center because of excessive speed. Police are investigating whether alcohol or drugs were also involved in the accident.
