U.S. Route 50 Reopened

State Highway Administration crews worked overnight removing the broken concrete and laying new asphalt to have the road ready in time for the morning rush hour.

All lanes of U.S. Route 50 reopened at 4 a.m. Monday after at least three lanes near exit 13 were closed Sunday afternoon when .

State Highway Administration (SHA) spokesman David Buck said crews removed the cracked concrete and replaced it with asphalt from 3:30 p.m. Sunday until about 5 a.m. Monday.

“We finished everything up, got the asphalt put down and smoothed out, and everything was open at 4:30 a.m.,” Buck said.

Because one lane and a shoulder were open all during repairs, Buck said the traffic impact was minimal and there was never more than a mile delay.

Additional repairs to the road are necessary, but the extend of work needed is undetermined. The work will be completed at night to reduce traffic impact, Buck said.
