LARGO, MD -- Two occupants of a vehicle that became trapped in floodwaters in Largo managed to escape the harrowing situation Thursday evening.

"2 occupants were able to self evacuate from partially submerged vehicle," Brady wrote. "Occupants OK - car - not so much."

Authorities say you should never drive through standing water. You never know how deep the water is, and even a small amount of water -- particularly if it is moving -- can strand a vehicle. Many people have drowned by attempting to drive through water.
