A water lantern festival will come to National Harbor this weekend. Paper lamps will illuminate the Potomac River during the two-day event.

OXON HILL, MD — National Harbor will host the Water Lantern Festival this weekend. The rice paper and wood lamps will illuminate the Potomac River on Saturday and Sunday.

"Water Lantern Festival is filled with fun, happiness, hope, and great memories that you'll cherish for a lifetime," planners said on their website. "This is a family friendly event that can be shared by everyone."

Gates open both days at 5 p.m. There will be food trucks and music. Visitors can design their lanterns at 8 p.m. Patrons will launch their lamps from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Made from natural materials, the lanterns are eco-friendly. Staff will clean up any trash after the event. Organizers also reuse and recycle the LED candle in each lamp.

Adult tickets cost $25.99 plus fees if purchased on Friday. After that, they are $40 plus service charges. Attendees can get $2 off if they share this post on Facebook and tag two friends.
