Website Connects Voters With Candidates In Special Election

An activist created an online platform where residents can easily ask questions of the Bowie mayoral candidates.

BOWIE, MD — Voters take to the polls today to choose a new mayor in a special election.

The mayoral seat remains open after Tim Adams was appointed to the Prince George's County Council.

Bowie residents who haven't yet cast their vote and aren't sure who to choose can turn to an online platform where they can pose questions of any or all candidates.

John Adams, a Bowie resident, told Patch that the website was built by a well-known activist and tech savvy person who ran for the House of Delegates in 1998 and 2010 - Shukoor Ahmed.

Adams said the website is a great tool for residents to learn more about the candidates.

"It is a crowded race and free-for-all as many council members are running and every citizen may have a different need or issues. It is also easier to ask all of them and compare their answers and most importantly gauge their responsiveness," Adams told Patch.

Adams asked candidates about their plans to remedy the potholes plaguing Bowie, and requested information from studies about the effectiveness of speed cameras, he said.

There are two polling locations for the April 7 special election. Districts 1 and 2 vote at Kenhill Center, 2614 Kenhill Drive, while Districts 3 and 4 vote at the city gymnasium, 4100 Northview Drive.

Polls will remain open until 8 p.m.
