What's Open, Closed For July 4, 2022, In Prince George's County

Patch has the scoop on July 4 holiday library hours, trash pick-up schedule adjustments, public transportation delays and office closures.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD β€” With the Fourth of July falling on a Monday, government offices will be closed and some services will be altered in observance of Independence Day.

The Prince George's County Memorial Library System will be closed Sunday and Monday.

In Laurel, all city offices will be closed and the following trash/recycling/composting schedule will be followed:

  • Monday trash and recycling pickup will be on Tuesday (residential and commercial)
  • Tuesday trash and recycling will be on Wednesday (residential only)
  • Tuesday commercial trash pickups remain the same
  • Wednesday, Thursday and Friday trash and recycling pickups are unchanged

There will not be bulky item or yard debris pickups Wednesday; the next bulk pickup will be July 13.


In Bowie, city offices will be closed Monday. The ice arena, gymnasium, senior center and historic sites will also be closed; however, city parks will remain open. There will be no refuse or recycling services on the holiday, but services will resume again on the next regularly scheduled day.

In Greenbelt, all city offices will be closed Monday. Refuse and recycling will slide forward one day during the upcoming holiday week and the Greenbelt Connection will not be operating.


In Hyattsville, city offices and the COVID-19 test site at the First United Church will be closed Monday for Independence Day. There will be no yard waste or compost collection July 4–8. Recycling and trash routes for the week remain the same.


In College Park, all city offices will be closed Monday. Refuse and recycling will occur one day later than normal during this holiday week.

  • Monday collections will occur Tuesday, July 5
  • Tuesday collections will occur Wednesday, July 6
  • Wednesday collections will occur Thursday, July 7

Special collections for brush and bulky items will be scheduled for Friday, July 8. You must call 240-487-3590 or email publicworks@collegeparkmd.gov to schedule a pickup before setting your items out to the curb.


In Upper Marlboro, town offices will be closed Monday. All trash, bulk trash and yard waste will be collected Tuesday.


There will not be curbside bulky trash collection or curbside recycling collection for Prince George's County customers Monday with scheduled collections resuming Tuesday. Residential organics and yard trim collections will not be picked up Monday; collections resume July 11.

The following Prince George's County offices and facilities will be closed Monday:

  • Animal Services Facility at 3750 Brown Station Road
  • Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill
  • Brown Station Road Public Convenience Center
  • Electronics Recycling Acceptance Site
  • Household Hazardous Waste Acceptance Site
  • Missouri Avenue Solid Waste Acceptance and Recycling Center
  • Prince George’s County Organics Composting Facility
  • Prince George’s County Materials Recycling Facility at 1000 Ritchie Road

TheBus will not operate Monday. Regular COVID-19 operations of TheBus will resume Tuesday. The county’s Call-A-Bus and PGC Link services, including dialysis transportation, will not operate on Monday, July 4, 2022. Regular COVID-19 operations of the Call-A-Bus and PGC Link services will resume Tuesday.

PGC311 will be closed Monday and resume regular operations Tuesday. However, residents can still submit service/issue requests online at www.countyclick311.com/.
