What's Open, Closed For New Year's 2024 In Bowie, Prince George's County

See how the New Year's holiday will affect government offices, yard waste pickup and more in Bowie.

BOWIE, MD β€” New Year’s Day is one of several holidays that usually affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Bowie and across Prince George's County.

State, county and local offices, and courts will be closed Monday with the exception of public safety agencies. Other closures and changes in service are:

  • Animal Services Facility & Adoption Center (3750 Brown Station Road)
  • Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill
  • Brown Station Road Public Convenience Drop-off Center
  • Electronics Recycling Acceptance Site (located at the Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill; (only open, Thursday, Friday and Saturday)
  • Household Hazardous Waste Acceptance Site (located at the Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill; (only open, Thursday, Friday and Saturday)
  • Missouri Avenue Solid Waste Acceptance and Recycling Drop-off Center
  • Prince George’s County Materials Recycling Facility (1000 Ritchie Road)
  • Prince George’s County Organics Composting Facility
  • Bulky trash collection will resume Tuesday (white goods/appliances and scrap tires by appointment only)
  • Trash collection in county-contracted areas will shift one day so Tuesday's collection will move to Wednesday and so on
  • Curbside bulky trash collection will shift one day so Tuesday's collection will move to Wednesday and so on
  • Curbside recycling collection will shift one day so Tuesday's collection will move to Wednesday and so on

The Prince George's County Memorial Library System will be closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

TheBus, a public transit service operated by the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T), will not operate Monday. Regular operations of TheBus resume Tuesday. The county’s Call-A-Bus and PGC Link services, including dialysis transportation, will not operate on Monday. Regular operations of the county’s Call-A-Bus and PGC Link services resume on Tuesday.

PGC311 will be closed Monday and will return to regular operations Tuesday. However, residents can still submit service/issue requests online at www.countyclick311.com.
