MARYLAND — The work week starts off almost spring-like in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., region with high temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. But a wintry mix will arrive mid-week to remind us what season it is.

"A warm front moving through will yield a warm day across the area with many reaching the upper 50s to low 60s. The next weather maker looms for Wednesday evening into the night which is favoring a wintry mix (freezing rain, sleet, and snow)," the National Weather Service said Monday morning.

A large storm is expected to take shape by the middle of the week that can bring a variety of impacts to the Eastern half of the U.S., said AccuWeather meteorologists.

"A clash of warm, humid air and cold Arctic air will result in a myriad of impactful weather for millions of Americans this week," said AccuWeatherMeteorologist Brandon Buckingham. "Severe thunderstorms, a dangerous ice storm and accumulating snow are all expected between Wednesday and Thursday as a storm races east."

Rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet will all fall before 10 p.m. Wednesday, the NWS said, then rain, freezing rain, and sleet between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., then rain after 1 a.m. Whatever snow or ice accumulates won't last long, with high temperatures expected to jump up to 59 degrees on Thursday.
