Woman Dies from Injuries after Car Hits Tree

A Welcome woman has died from injuries suffered in a one-vehicle crash in Cheltenham, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

The victim is Betty Yake, 48, of Annapolis Woods Road in Welcome, authorities say.

The crash happened about 12:55 a.m. Wednesday in the 10800 block of Blackstone Avenue. Officers found Yake suffering from critical injuries. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation reveals Yake’s vehicle was northbound on Blackstone Avenue when for reasons which remain unclear, she crossed into the southbound lanes, left the roadway and struck a tree.
