Woman Dies from Silicone Buttocks Injections, Unlicensed Doctor Sought

A BET Networks freelancer from Prince George's County who had five earlier booty procedures died after injections in New York, police say.

A woman who idolized the backsides of Beyonce and Nicki Minaj died after silicone injections to make her buttocks appear fuller were apparently done by an unlicensed woman in a private home.

Kelly Mayhew, 34, of Suitland, died Saturday in Queens, NY. After she received the silicone injections Mayhew had trouble breathing, her mother began CPR and called 911. The woman who administered the shots then fled, WUSA reports.

The injections were given in the basement apartment of a private residence in Queens, according to police.

The death is the second such mishap reported involving Prince George’s County residents in a year. In January, Vinnie Taylor was charged with murder for allegedly injecting a woman at a Capitol Heights hotel on March 20, 2014. She became ill after being injected in her buttocks to increase their size and sought treatment at a local hospital, where she later died.

Investigators say Taylor had no medical training.

A GoFundMe page set up to help Mayhew’s family pay for her funeral expenses says “she was suddenly taken from us during a medical procedure, leaving a huge void on her family. …Kelly was not insured, leaving the stress and cost of her funeral on a family that she herself was helping during tough times.”

The New York site of the Mayhew’s death was described by the New York Daily News as a home that doubled as the phony plastic surgeon’s office. She died at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.

Mayhew worked as a freelancer for the BET Networks, reports The Washington Post.

Mayhew’s mother, Latrice, told police her daughter had undergone five previous butt enhancements. The fatal procedure was organized by a family friend.

BET Networks issued a statement on Mayhew’s death. “We are saddened by the death of our colleague and friend, Kelly Mayhew. Our hearts go out to her family and we extend our deepest sympathies for their loss.”
