Prosecutors say Newsome broke into the home of Andy Amaya, her ex-boyfriend, hid while he slept, and then assaulted his then-8-year-old son. Newsome covered the boy’s face with a pillow, then hit him in the head with a weapon.
But, the boy remembered his karate lessons and fought back.

“I woke up and she was smothering me,” Jacob Soliz-Amaya told News4 in 2013 after the attack. Police said the woman was also beating his head with a weapon. “While she was covering my mouth, I was thinking, and then I figured it out and then I gave her a head-butt.”
Newsome earlier pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree burglary.
The youngster fled to a neighbor’s house after fighting back, and called 911.
