5 Broadneck-Area Teachers are Semifinalists for Teacher of the Year

Teachers from four area schools were among the 15 semifinalists in the county.

One-third of the 15 teachers named as semifinalists for this year's Teacher of the Year award are from Broadneck-area schools.

The list of teachers went public this week, and includes:

  • Raven Bishop,
  • Martha Gardner,
  • Catherine Hayo,
  • Mary Rathlev,
  • Scott Rundle,

The list of teachers will be narrowed down to five finalists before a winner is chosen to represent Anne Arundel County in the Maryland Teacher of the Year Awards.Β

Fifteen educators from all levels of the public school system werenamed today as semifinalists for the 2012 Anne Arundel County Teacher ofΒ the Year award. Eight of the educators are elementary school teachers, threeΒ teach at middle schools, and four teach at the high school level. Ten of theΒ county’s 12 high school clusters are represented by semifinalists.

A group of 50 Anne Arundel County teachers will be honored at the 26th annual Excellence inΒ Education banquet at the BWI Marriott in Linthicum on April 16, 2012. Five finalists for the 2012 AnneΒ Arundel County Public Schools Teacher of the Year award will be announced later this month. TheΒ winner will represent the county in the Maryland State Teacher of the Year competition.

In addition, three private school teachers will vie for the 2012 Private School Teacher of theΒ Year award.The event, presented in partnership by Anne Arundel County Public Schools and theΒ Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce, will also honor local business andΒ community partners that have forged critical partnerships with schools across the county, directlyΒ benefiting AACPS’ 76,000 students.
