AACC Dancers To Perform 'Spring Migration' in May

The award-winning dance companyof (AACC) will kick off May with its annual Spring Migration concert.

The event will be at 8 p.m. May 4 and 5 at the Robert E. Kauffman Theater on the Arnold campus.

The dance company  in March. The money helped pay for their travels to the American College Dance Festival in Utah.

Make plans now to attend the dynamic, entertaining performances of the AACC Dance Company as it presents an eclectic mix of dance styles and choreography in its annual “Spring Migration” concert.

The curtain rises at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, in the Robert E. Kauffman Theater in the Pascal Center for Performing Arts on the Arnold campus.

Company Artistic Director Lynda P. Fitzgerald, AACC coordinator of performing arts—dance, has choreographed three full company pieces for this performance. Updated from 1993, “Perspectives” is set to the wonderful sounds of Outback and provides a fun look at dance from different angles.

The second full-company piece, “Gotta Run!” premiered at the fall concert and was recently adjudicated at the northwest region of the American College Dance Festival in Utah. This three-part piece is generational and focuses with humor on things from which we run and things to which we run. The music for the piece features “Flight of the Bumblebee,” “The William Tell Overture” and “Chariots of Fire.” The adjudicators marveled at the smart choreography, the energy and commitment of the dancers, and the humor in the work.

The third full-company piece is “Tic’d Off,” which is set to the electronic sounds of “Mouth Music” with movement inspired by the tune.

The student-choreographed works are eclectic! Returning dancers Samuel Boquist (Annapolis), Hannah Engleke (Glen Burnie), Shelby Jones (Millersville), Racheal LaBonte (Arnold), Arrington Lassiter (Washington, D.C.), Anwar Thomas (Linthicum) and Leonard Williams (Baltimore) are joined by newcomers Erika Goodfellow (Glen Burnie) and Elisabeth Lee (Linthicum) in contributing dynamic, creative works that include strong, light-hearted, romantic, dramatic and physical dance pieces.

Prices are $7 for those with a valid AACC student ID; $10 for AACC faculty, staff, senior citizens and outside students; and $15 for the general public.
