Around AACC—Library Expansion Opens Aug. 27

An expansion to the Truxal Library at 's Arnold campus is in the final stages.

Susan Gross, spokeswoman for AACC, said the library will be open at the start of fall term—on Aug. 27.

"Work crews are putting on the finishing touches, mostly on the interior of the library," Gross said. "It's probably the biggest visual happening on campus right now."

Tours of the new library are set for next week. Broadneck Patch will be there with photos of the inside and outside of the new facility, which boasts an additional 31,000 square feet, increasing the building's size 40 percent.

The  started in spring 2011, and since then, library patrons have been operating out of a temporary building. But recently, librarians and some student-support services began moving back into the renovated library to work out the kinks before the start of fall term, Gross said.

There are several new courses students will be offered this year when classes start back on Aug. 27:

• Business management certificate option in social entrepreneurship—18 credits.
• Cyber forensics associate of applied science degree option—60-plus credits or certificate—18 credits.
• Fine arts associate of arts degree option in creative writing—60-plus credits.
• Human services certificate in veterans counseling—21 credits.
• Internet applications development associate of applied science degree—60-plus credits.
• Mobile device application development associate of applied science degree—60-plus credits.
• Patient care technician/geriatric nursing assistant certificate—12 credits.
