Students reeled in Earth Day with a series of green-friendly activities.
students celebrated Earth Day on Friday with an event they called "A Green A-Fair."
Kindergarten teacher Liz Muhitch said it all started with the school's green team looking for a fun way to educate their community on ways to reduce their carbon footprints.
"While the community is aware of the more familiar green procedures, such as recycling and reducing waste, our team wanted to present other green practices such as composting, green eating, waste-free lunches, eating local and using recycled materials to create art," Muhitch wrote in an email to Patch.

The green team is also working to promote the national Meatless Monday campaign to help the community see how their food choices affect the environment, Muhitch said.
At Friday's fair, fourth- and fifth-graders sold vegetables they had grown, and gathered beads for making jewelry and clay pots.Β There were also guests who made seed bombs with the kids, discussed composting, and made birdhouses made from recycled materials.

Class projects that were featured explored environmental issues, such as the effect plastic bags and water bottles have on the environment.
"Everyone had a blast," Muhitch said. "We were very happy and are looking for ways to make it even better next year."
