Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Curtis Winter, a graduate of , was recently named the 11th and final Anne Arundel County student to earn a National Merit Scholarship this school year. Winter earned the merit award from the University of Chicago, and is set to study economics later this year, according to a release from the Anne Arundel County Public School System. College-sponsored scholarships typically range between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. In all, 197 colleges and universities subsidized nearly 4,600 awards nationwide this year. Congratulations to Winter for the award!
