Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. News broke this afternoon that the Blue Angels won't perform in Annapolis during Commissioning Week for the U.S. Naval Academy. The Blue Angels, the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, were scheduled to practice on Tuesday and participate in a demonstration air show on Wednesday. According to a release, "this cancellation is due to a safety stand down period imposed by the team's commanding officer after a lower-than-normal maneuver that took place during the team's last performance at Lynchburg Regional Air Show, May 22 in Lynchburg, VA." No damage or injuries were reported following that maneuver; however, the team will remain in Pensacola, FL, for additional training and practice. It has not yet been decided if the Blue Angels will perform a flyover at the U.S. Naval Academy's graduation on Friday, according to the release.
