100 Days of Summer

Join me in the 100 day challenge of taking a photo every day starting tomorrow through Labor Day weekend (September 4).

I hear comments all the time such as, "Your kids must have so many great pictures of themselves." But sadly, often the last thing I feel like doing is picking up my camera and turning it on my own family when I spend so much time doing it professionally. We've all heard the quote, "The shoemaker's kids always go barefoot" and I confess that such is the life of my children.

Last year, on a completele whim, I picked up my camera on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and took it out with our family on our first boating excursion of the season. I told my husband that I was going to see if I could challenge myself to take one photo for me every day just through summer.  I wasn't sure I could handle the commitment and honestly there were days when I found myself baking cookies at 10 p.m. or driving my kids to an obscure location so they could jump over the tall grasses just because I had not yet taken a photo of the day.

But despite the challenges, what I found is that I had documented our entire summer and found myself wanting to make it an annual tradition. Those pictures bring me, and my family, so much joy.

So I challenge you to join me in the 100 day challenge of taking a photo every day starting tomorrow through Labor Day weekend (September 4). It doesn't matter what camera you have or even if you decide to use your phone camera. It isn't about creating award winning imagery and you don't even have to share them with your closest friends unless you wish to. Give it a try - you might be pleasantly surprised at the results!
