Broadneck Family Chiropractic Named Tops with Patients

Broadneck Family Chiropractic offers a nontraditional approach to pain management and disease prevention.

When a patient walks into the sunny office at Broadneck Family Chiropractic, a strange thing happens.  There is no wait-time, there is no frenzied activity and treatments are typically completed in less than 20 minutes.  The office exudes a calm that is foreign to traditional doctor’s offices - a welcome change from the ordinary.

Included among the 2010 Edition of Chesapeake Family Magazine’s Favorite Docs, Dr. Tania Howard, DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) and Dr. Marissa Wallie, DC, garnered votes from numerous patients who say they find freedom from pain and chronic conditions under their care.

Dr. Howard graduated with a Masters in Chiropractic from Life University, an accredited school of chiropractic in Georgia, in 1991.  Dr. Wallie graduated from New York Chiropractic College in 2000.  In December 2010, the pair welcomed Dr. Carrie Foerter a recent graduate of Life University, to the practice.

While chiropractors do not perform surgery or prescribe medication, practitioners use a holistic approach to help the body heal itself.  Licensed chiropractors are required to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in a medical field, such as biology, followed by a doctorate in Chiropractic.

Sylvie Zesvaugh, a retired flight attendant, has known Dr. Howard since she started her practice out of her home more than 16 years ago. Zesvaugh said, “I referred so many people here…  I had an airplane accident, and I needed this.  It’s awesome.”  Zesvaugh said that she trusts Dr. Howard with all four of her kids as well.

Although chiropractic involves alleviating pressure and deviations in the spine (called subluxations), a trained professional is gentle enough to be able to treat infants and children.  While chiropractic cannot replace the care of a primary care physician, the service can complement traditional medical care or treat conditions that have not responded well to traditional care.

Ear infections that do not respond well to antibiotics may respond to chiropractic care, according to Foerter.  “The very top bone in your neck is so close to your ears,” Foerter explains.  “That one little adjustment can really help those ears drain and, voilà, less ear infections.”

Foerter said that while antibiotics kill bacteria that develop as a result of fluid retention in the ear, a chiropractic adjustment can help reduce the collection of fluid in the ear, preventing the growth of bacteria in the first place.
